Job Title: Youth Worker

JOB PURPOSE
To design, develop and grow our youth ministry so that it actively supports and encourages those young people who are part of our Church family and those who are currently outside of a Christian community to find pathways to a living relationship with Christ and to enable them to experience an increasing sense of their own dignity, worth and value to God. This will involve building healthy and safe relationships with young people and promoting their emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Leading and developing youth programmes
a. To develop and lead discipleship-based groups that present the relevance of the good news of Jesus Christ to young people in an appropriate & culturally relevant manner, enabling them to understand and learn the biblical story and to make use of it in their daily lives as apprentices of Jesus.
b. To develop and lead a midweek youth club that engages young people within the church family and community that actively seeks to communicate the good news of Jesus.
c. Planning and leading away days, residentials and festival experiences.
d. To recruit, motivate and lead the various volunteers who work with young people for all of the activities and programmes to ensure that the objectives for each group and the church are met.
e. Develop appropriate and safe communications and communication channels that engage young people and all key stakeholders, including parents.
2. Building discipling relationships
a. Developing a culture of youth discipleship, working to enable young people to encounter and develop their relationship with the Holy Spirit and become resilient disciples engaged in disciplines/Holy Habits that will nourish and sustain them through future life.
b. To be a role model for young people in what it means to follow Jesus as a disciple, regularly praying for and with them.
c. Mentoring young people.
d. Identifying and nurturing youth in their gifting and offering mentoring and coaching to emerging leaders.
3. Developing local youth outreach models
a. Working in the local community to build trust and relationships beyond the Church.
b. Partnering with local organisations including other Churches, local borough council groups, charities and businesses which have an interest in supporting young people.
c. Connecting with local secondary schools.
4. Personal development
a. To actively develop and grow own personal relationship with God the Father, Son & Holy Spirit through prayer and worship.
b. Participating in personal and professional development opportunities, including making use of retreat times as agreed with your manager.
c. To commit to learning and developing skills and experience, including engaging with new research and thinking about youth ministry.
d. Reflecting on own and Church approach to youth work, listening to young people and the community, and implementing change where necessary.
5. Safeguarding and inclusion
a. To proactively support the embedding of a safeguarding culture within Jubilee Church and all of its clubs and activities in order to ensure young people are supported & can develop within a safe environment. This includes ensuring volunteers are fully equipped and that all activities are safely staffed and risk assessed.
b. Developing inclusion and accessibility through working with the church to ensure that young people with additional needs are welcomed and have full access to all youth provision.
6. Contributing to the whole Church
a. To oversee and manage the administration associated with the young people’s work, including managing the youth work budget, to ensure that GDPR policies are applied, records are maintained, permissions are obtained, and financial records and kept and reports can be provided when required.
b. Participating fully as a member of the Staff Team as we work and pray together to seek God and implement the vision of the church.
c. Participating in the ongoing development of our strategy and approach in partnership with other staff and leaders, including our engagement with the wider Church in Bromley.
d. To carry out any other duties that are deemed appropriate for the role.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education, Training and Work Qualifications
Essential:
¨ GCSE Maths & English grade C or above, or equivalent
Desirable:
¨ an appropriate Youth and Community Work Qualification;
¨ Christian leadership and/or theological training
¨ Basic food hygiene level 3 (or willing to be trained)
¨ First Aid certificate (or willing to be trained)
Knowledge
Essential:
¨ Understanding of Safeguarding issues and how they relate to young people’s work;
¨ Understanding of neuro-diversity and how to apply that knowledge to engaging young people.
Desirable:
¨ Understanding of food hygiene, Health & Safety and risk assessments
¨ A knowledge of dietary requirements, including allergies
Skills and Abilities
Essential:
¨ Able to present Jesus to young people in a creative and culturally relevant way
¨ Able to engage with young people of different ages and backgrounds and build strong
healthy relationships with them;
¨ Ability to be proactive, positive and encouraging
¨ Ability to understand and grasp youth culture
¨ Able to demonstrate a broad general biblical knowledge
¨ Able to demonstrate patience and resilience
¨ Able to influence in a variety of different settings and work places;
¨ Able to plan and organise own work and that of others;
¨ Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team and, where appropriate, on their own;
¨ Good IT skills, including social media and Microsoft office or equivalent
¨ Able to deliver effectively against goals and objectives while managing a diverse and demanding workload

Relevant Experience
Essential
¨ Experience of working safely with young people in a variety of settings including working in groups, mentoring and 121s
¨ Experience of designing and implementing creative, age-specific activities and programmes;
¨ Experience of leading, managing & supporting volunteers
Desirable:
¨ Experience of working with young people in a Christian context;
¨ Experience of working with young people in a secular context;
¨ Experience of mentoring and/or discipling young people
Other Requirements
Essential:
¨ A committed and Spirit-filled Christian who is actively seeking to develop their own faith and is willing to be in an accountable discipling relationship*
¨ In view of the church’s objectives all employees must be willing to accept and hold fast to both the Nicene Creed and the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith, appendix 1, which provides a helpful summary of the Church’s core Christian beliefs.
¨ A passion to see young people discover and grow in their Christian faith;
¨ Able to own and share the vision, aims and values of Jubilee Church with a wide variety of people, both in and outside the church
¨ Proactive and able to both initiate and see work through to completion;
¨ Willing to work unsocial hours when required
¨ Be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check & comply with all other Safeguarding requirements;
¨ Teachable and hospitable
Desirable:
¨ Experience of the Holy Spirit operating in young people’s work;
¨ Creative media skills
¨ Part of Jubilee Church or willing to become a member of the church
