Description of Job

We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our team in a unique job share arrangement, combining two critical roles within our ministry. This position involves working 20 hours per week focusing on Worship and 20 hours per week supporting Youth Ministry, amounting to a total of 40 hours per week.

The successful candidate will work closely with our current Worship Pastor and our Youth Pastor and together, you'll form a collaborative team, dedicated to guiding our worship and youth communities. Specific responsibilities will be tailored to each post-holder’s strengths and areas of expertise, and these details will be discussed and agreed upon during the selection process.

Job Context:

We are a vibrant, all-age Anglican, evangelical/charismatic church with a strong focus on grounding in Scripture, openness to the Holy Spirit, active mission, and community service. We aim to foster a dynamic ministry to young people and an engaging worship environment. The position will work closely with both our worship and youth ministries, supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.

Role Purpose:

This dual role seeks to engage, equip, and mentor our youth while leading the congregation in worship. We are looking for someone passionate about youth ministry and worship, committed to nurturing young people’s spiritual growth and leading the congregation in worship that glorifies God.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Youth Ministry Support and Leadership

  • Collaborate with Youth Pastor: Partner with the existing Youth Pastor to implement the church’s vision for youth ministry.
  • Engage Young People in Faith: Support young people in discovering their identity in Christ and participating in the church’s mission. Develop programs that promote discipleship, fellowship, and service.
  • Community and Outreach Initiatives: Pioneer a midweek after-school drop-in space for youth at the Hillside Centre. Identify and pursue creative, missional outreach strategies to connect with youth inside and outside the church.
  • Develop Volunteer Teams: Recruit, train, and support volunteers to assist in youth ministry. Equip families and the broader church community to nurture young people in the faith.
  • Pastoral Care and Discipleship: Provide pastoral support for youth, addressing their unique challenges. Offer structured discipleship opportunities, including regular programs and annual youth retreats.

2. Worship Ministry Leadership

  • Lead Congregational Worship: Oversee worship at Sunday services and other gatherings, guiding the congregation into worship that is Spirit-led and aligned with service themes.
  • Mentor and Train Worship Volunteers: Foster the technical and spiritual development of worship leaders and musicians. Train team members in biblical principles of worship and encourage a spirit-filled worship experience.
  • Administration and Team Management: Handle scheduling, recruitment, and development of volunteer worship leaders and musicians. Ensure effective communication and organization within the worship team.
  • Integrate Creativity in Worship: Encourage diverse forms of worship expression, from traditional to contemporary styles, including music, art, and other creative gifts.

3. Long-term Ministry Planning and Strategy

  • Youth Ministry Vision and Strategy: Develop a long-term strategy for youth ministry, partnering with church leadership to set goals and evaluate progress.
  • Worship Ministry Development: Cultivate a vision for worship that emphasizes both prophetic and pastoral elements, ensuring worship aligns with the church’s mission and community life.

Skills and Attributes Required:

  • Faith and Pastoral Sensitivity: A committed Christian with a vibrant, active faith and a heart for both pastoral care and worship.
  • Leadership and Mentorship Skills: Capable of mentoring youth and worship volunteers, fostering strong relationships and nurturing spiritual growth.
  • Musical Proficiency: Skilled in leading worship (ideally from guitar or piano) with the ability to lead alone or within a band. Prophetic worship leading is an asset.
  • Organisational Abilities: Strong planning and administrative skills to manage time effectively, make decisions, and maintain clear communication.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Versatile communication skills suitable for a range of audiences, including youth, parents, and congregation members.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in Youth Ministry: Experience working with young people in both structured and informal settings, preferably within a Christian context.
  • Worship Leading Background: Demonstrated ability to lead charismatic worship, ideally in an evangelical/charismatic church.
  • Knowledge of Youth and Worship Dynamics: Understanding of youth development, safeguarding, and worship practices in a church setting.
  • Education and Training: Degree or equivalent in theology, youth work, or related fields is desirable. Continued professional development in areas relevant to youth and worship ministry is encouraged.

Personal and Professional Development

  • Spiritual Growth: Maintain a disciplined devotional life and seek opportunities for spiritual direction or mentorship.
  • Self-care: Prioritize Sabbath rest, personal leave, and personal development.
