Role Purpose:
We are looking for an experienced finance officer who loves Jesus. This is a fast paced hands on role with responsibility for the day to day administration of the finances of B&A. The role will be responsible for the accounting and financial stewardship of B&A, working in collaboration with our staff team. Including income reconciliations, expenditure, Gift Aid, restricted funds, salary processing and monthly reporting. We are looking for someone who would thrive bringing organisation, professionalism and structure to the role that enables others and the Vision to thrive.
Responsibilities:
- Day to day financial processing
- Income and expenditure reconciliations
- Gift Aid reconciliation and applications
- Salary and expense processing
- Maintaining Quickbooks (Financial Software)
- Completing and recording Journals
- Keeping accurate records and evidence of process.
- Keeping accurate and up to date records of supporting documentation for our financial management including restricted fund trackers.
- Ensure that all payments are made in a timely manner and staff payments are processed, including payment to the HMRC and NEST.
- Providing appropriate reports and insights for the Head of Operations, Treasurer and wider senior leadership team.
- Working in collaboration with our staff team to support their budget management and understanding processes. Including setting up and facilitating automated reporting and being a first point of contact for finance queries.
- Ensure the Parish Accounts are in order so that they are ready for a yearly examination. Including assistance given to the Treasurer in preparing the accounts for auditing.
- Undertaking such tasks as may from time to time be agreed with your manager, the Finance Committee and PCC for the efficient and effective working for the Parish of Bishopston and St Andrews.
- Coordinate with the other staff roles to ensure processes follow our Standing Financial Controls.
- Manage bank deposits, monthly reconciliation and petty cash.
- To attend appropriate meetings as requested within your working time.
- Confidence to provide prayer and support to the church community.
- Work within GDPR and Safeguarding Policies, maintaining at all times the highest standards of professionalism and approachability.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:
Essential
- Demonstrate a worshipping heart and buy-in for the Vision of B&A.
- Experience of financial management at least to bookkeeping level, will take transferable experience from a more senior role.
- Has experience using financial management software
- Excels working within strong financial guidelines and confident in supporting others to do the same.
- Excels at Excel
- Bold and kind, committed to doing tasks correctly and supporting others to do the same.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to talk to a variety of people who have different financial understanding.
- A self starter with hunger to learn and grow with us - must have the ability to work unsupervised.
- Excellent organisational skills, including personal time management and boundaries.
- High levels of attention to detail and confidentiality
- Experience working with monthly management accounts, balance sheets and financial activities reports.
Desirable
- Academic qualifications relevant to role (AAT or other)
- Experience in previous employment as a financial officer or similar.
- Part of B&A’s worshipping community.
- Experience using Google Sheets
- Experience with Quickbooks
- Some experience with key external stakeholders - HMRC, NEST, Gift Aid or similar.
- Experience creating and commuting context with management accounts.
Contract Info:
- Permanent role
- 18.75 hours a week or 0.5 pro rata (Based on a 37.5hrs week)
- Salary Banding £25,000 to £26,450 FTE Depending on experience
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays pro rata
