Description of Job

Applications Close: 15 April 2026

Our mission is to Follow Jesus, Build Life Together, and Renew East London.  We do this through our passionate commitment to our four values - Home, Apprenticeship, Presence, and Courage. This role aims to develop the current ministry for parents of young children and teenagers with a focus on equipping parents and carers to disciple their children. We want children to know the love of Jesus, and for parents to raise children confidently as disciples. We also know that parenting young children is hard work; it can be challenging and complex in our individualistic, consumerist culture; and it can be lonely.

We want to create spaces where families from across our local area can find a real, supportive community, and can find concrete and effective tools to help with Christian parenting, raising children as disciples. We are looking for a leader who is passionate about equipping both children and parents to grow in their own faith and to share it with others.

Terms & Conditions

  • Hours: Full time. Sunday work is required. Evening and weekend work might be required—flexible working hours and patterns available.
  • Salary: £35,000-37,000 per annum pro rata. More might be available for an exceptional candidate.
  • Annual Leave: 33 days pro rata, including statutory bank holidays and 6 Sundays per year
  • Adherence to the Christ Church Spitalfields Employment and Leadership Code of Conduct will be required.

Core Responsibilities

Family Discipleship and Pastoral Care

  • Develop and source material to equip parents and carers to disciple their children outside of Sundays.
  • Equip and provide support to parents to equip them to disciple their children at home, at school and elsewhere.
  • Champion and encourage Children and Families' participation in both prayer and worship gatherings
  • Look to develop a strategy for equipping parents with effective and practical parenting tools.
  • Organising systems for supporting new parents, such as meal trains and sleep training assistance.
  • Managing and developing successful communication with families.

Sunday Gatherings

  • Hold oversight for and champion the children's and youth ministries on a Sunday
  • Building and equipping a team that will deliver engaging, age-appropriate content for children of all ages.
  • Developing the delivery of Sunday children’s work, in collaboration with other Leaders and the Rector, to ensure an environment is created where children and youth can encounter Jesus.
  • Creating a culture where the faith of children is taken seriously and encouraged from birth to age 18 years.
  • Creating a culture where children are welcomed into the Church family with enthusiasm.
  • Creating a warm, engaging space for children and families at The Eleven, through both our children’s groups and our worship together.

Pre-school outreach

  • Hold oversight for and develop an evangelistic vision for the Tots and Toddlers groups with the Ministry apprentice.
  • Develop a strategy for inviting families who attend missional events (Tots and Toddlers, Bonfire Night, etc) into other areas of the life of the church, e.g. Sundays, Alpha, etc.
  • Develop a strategy to run the Alpha Course and/or similar events for parents and carers.

Schools’ work

  • Act as the point of contact between the church and Christ Church Primary School and develop a strategy for missional engagement alongside the Rector.
  • Delivering assemblies and gatherings in church for pupils in collaboration with Christ Church Primary School.

One-off outreach events

  • Running outreach events throughout the year, such as Bonfire Night, Christmas Nativity and Easter.
  • Working with the Head of Outreach to invite local families into church life.

General Responsibilities

  • Follow the Christ Church Spitalfields Safeguarding Policy and ensure the completion of safeguarding training by children’s team leaders as required.
  • Follow the Christ Church Spitalfields Health & Safety Policy and complete Risk Assessments.
  • Represent and champion the children and families’ ministry.
  • Act as an inspirational role model for the children’s team, demonstrating what it means to be a follower of Jesus both ‘on and off’ duty.
  • Spiritual oversight of the children and families outreach ministry at Christ Church Spitalfields, prioritising prayer and fasting for this ministry.
  • Maintain attendance records of children and families at Christ Church Spitalfields.
  • Set and maintain budgets for the children and families projects.

Christ Church Spitalfields

London, England, United Kingdom

Everything we do at Christ Church Spitalfields is focused on Jesus. Jesus is the name above all names, and his star-breathing, storm-calming, miracle-working power is second to none. Yet he is also a personal friend who knows what we are going through and cares about us. That’s why the Bible also calls him “Immanuel” - which means 'God with us.'

Our mission at Christ Church is to Follow Jesus, Build Life Together and Renew East London.

We believe that Jesus had a radical way of living that saw healing, freedom and renewal. We want the same for our lives and all in East London. We’re committed to becoming like Jesus, learning from him as his apprentices to be a light in our city.

Jesus built a strong and loyal community around him, showing that life is made to do with others. So we’re also building life together, resisting the radical individualism of our culture to pursue relationships with others and follow Jesus together.

The presence of God is transformational. It brings hope, healing and freedom, renewing all that it touches. Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection means God’s presence is for all and, as followers of Jesus, our mission is to see all find renewal through Jesus. So we’re being courageous in sharing Jesus with everyone, starting with our local area of Tower Hamlets.
